InterDigital, Amazon: ITC Launches Section 337 Video Device Probe
January 22, 2026
The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has officially announced its decision to institute a Section 337 investigation (No. 337-TA-1481) into Amazon over alleged patent infringement related to certain video-capable electronic devices, effective January 20, 2026.
InterDigital first filed the complaint on December 15, 2025, and submitted a supplementary document on January 6, 2026.
PRIP noted that this USITC investigation is part of InterDigital’s broader legal campaign against Amazon over video coding technologies such as AV1 and HDR.
PRIP pointed out that this USITC investigation is part of InterDigital’s wider legal action against Amazon over video coding technologies like AV1 and HDR.
Back in September 2025, InterDigital sought provisional measures from the Mannheim Local Division of the UPC. In November, it filed a patent infringement lawsuit at the same UPC court, and also sued Amazon in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware.
In December 2025, InterDigital expanded its legal push by filing additional complaints with the USITC, the UPC Mannheim Local Division, and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia—all centered on AV1 and HDR technologies.
PRIP found that the scope of alleged infringement in the USITC complaint is broader than that asserted in the district court cases, covering more patent claims.
