Apple first released the App revenue of local creators in China
New research finds that Apple's App Store ecosystem in China has doubled in size since 2019, benefiting local developers
On November 18, 2024, Apple China released a new research report on its official website, written by Associate Professor Ju Heng from the School of Business at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics.
The study found that since 2019, the scale of the App Store ecosystem in China has grown by over 100%, benefiting local developers. The developer revenue and sales facilitated by the App Store ecosystem in China increased from 1.65 trillion yuan in 2019 to 3.76 trillion yuan in 2023.
The study also found that over 95% of the aforementioned revenue and sales belong entirely to developers and businesses of all sizes, without paying any commission to Apple. This growth is due to Apple's strong investment in the Chinese App Store and local developer community over the years. Apple promises to continue supporting their success, investing resources in the App Store ecosystem, and providing more opportunities for Chinese developers.
“Apple greatly respects and admires the Chinese developer community. That's why the App Store continues to provide momentum for China's economic growth and opportunities, which makes us very proud Apple CEO Tim Cook said, "Today, more developers are creating excellent apps, growing their businesses, and bringing positive impact to their communities. We will continue to expand our support for aspiring app creators and entrepreneurs to help them achieve more.”
On the same day, the Supreme People's Court held a trial of a Chinese company's lawsuit against Apple for abusing its market dominance.
The plaintiff is a mysterious company, currently known only as Shanghai Yuancellular Network Technology Co., Ltd (SYNT). This is a small company with a registered capital of only 100000 yuan (US$13,797), established in 2020.
